December 2006 onwards.

Newcastle, NSW, Australia, as of February 2005 onwards.
He was made Honorary Professor, Department of O&G, Sri Ramachandra University (Harvard Medical
International) from February 2005 onwards.
He was also made Honorary Professor, Ricardo Palma University, Lima, Peru South America from October 2005
onwards.
He was awarded Doctor of Medicine (MD) by The University of Queensland, Australia in 2009.
He was bestowed the highest honour of Doctor Honoris Causa, Ricardo Palma University, Lima, Peru, South
America on December 2006.
Christopher Chen graduated MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) from the University of Singapore
in 1964 and obtained his postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the prestigious Royal Infirmary of
Edinburgh as well as in Glasgow, the UK, obtaining the higher O&G Specialist degree of MRCOG from Royal College
of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, London in 1969. He then returned to join the University of Singapore and
taught from 1969 as a Professor. He was credited to have successfully achieved sperm cryopreservation from his
infertility research and established Asia’s and Singapore’s first Sperm Bank in 1976. He subsequently proceeded to
an academic position of Senior Lecturer at Flinders University and Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide, Australia
from 1978 to 1987.
There, in Australia, he continued his infertility research and distinguished himself by achieving the world's
first IVF triplet pregnancies in 1983, obtaining another world’s first by being the first person to
successfully freeze the human egg, with the delivery of twins derived from these frozen eggs, in 1986. This was
fully documented in the prestigious journal, Lancet. He was then awarded the coveted William Blair Bell Memorial
Lectureship by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (UK) for his pioneering work on human egg
freezing in 1987.
At the end of 1987, he returned to Singapore to establish and Head the Department of Reproductive Medicine at
the Kandang Kerbau Hospital for Women, as well as performing both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and
training at the University as a Professor. He was also an examiner to the University for the MBBS and M.Med
(O&G) degrees and to the Royal Australian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists for the MRACOG
degree.
He proceeded in 1993 with the development of the Centre for Reproductive Medicine at Gleneagles Hospital, to
serve not only the needs of Singaporeans but also those of the surrounding region, comprising Indonesia, Malaysia,
Brunei, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Hong Kong and even India and Pakistan. The Centre offers a one-stop
facility for the management of both female and male fertility problems and includes such procedures as IVF, GIFT,
ICSI, cryopreservation of sperm and fertilized eggs, pelvic microsurgery for repair of the female reproductive
tract, laparoscopic surgery for diseases of the female reproductive system, laparoscopic varicocoelectomy for male
infertility, sperm banking, and ovulation induction. He is its Medical Director, CEO, and Infertility Specialist,
as well as Senior Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. He is also the Director of Gleneagles IVF Centre and
Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to Gleneagles Hospital. He is a Medical Consultant to the Embassy of the
USA (Singapore), and a Member of the New York Academy of Sciences since 1987, in recognition of his
research.
Being actively involved in clinical and research work in Reproductive Medicine (female and male infertility),
he continues to publish scientific papers and to speak at many International and local Meetings and Conferences. In
1998, he was credited with producing Asia's first IVF sextuplets in Singapore, which made history as
the most advanced in recorded history. He is the author of many publications (N=150), including books (N=7), and is
on the editorial board of several international medical journals, including International Surgery, the Journal of
the International College of Surgeons. He is the Co-Editor of the journal International Surgery.
He was Chairman of the Chapter of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, Academy of Medicine, Singapore from 1989
- 1992, and a Council Member of the Academy of Medicine Singapore from 1990 - 1992. He was Chairman of the 22nd
Singapore-Malaysia Congress of Medicine Singapore, August 1988, which was a very successful Congress.
He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, UK (FRCOG); a Fellow of the Royal
Australian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRACOG); a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand
College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG); a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS); a
Fellow of the International College of Surgeons (FICS); and a Fellow, Academy of Medicine Singapore
(FAMS).
